I am Dr. David Abend, and I would like to welcome you to my web site. Here you will find a video of myself, explaining the philosophy of my practice and background.

I consider myself/my practice, the type that makes a person feel very comfortable when visiting a doctor. By virtue of my comprehensive, hands-on, integrative Osteopathic medical training, I tend to spend a fairly long time (such as greater than 25 minutes) on average with each patient, helping to encounter and resolve many physical problems.

Many people complain about long waiting times to see a doctor, and sometimes, I'm no exception, but I feel that I am well worth waiting for, because at times, I will spend almost as much time as you waited for me with you. I believe that waiting is common in just about every practice and in business, but that the quality of the time that you spend with me will make you appreciate the wait time.

My role in your care is like that of a quarterback in football. As a patient, you are the football and I may pass you to another player who would be another doctor or colleague, such as a specialist. After the 'play' (consult or procedure) is over, the football (patient) comes back to see me. In this analogy, I help to control the flow of your medical care within your insurance plan.

Today, many people will look for a personal physician who will spend a fair amount of time with them discussing their problems from A through Z. That doctor will be responsible for overseeing the various physicians and procedures to whom they are sent.

I have been in private practice in the Bergen County, New Jersey, area for over 18 years. I am affiliated with Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, New Jersey.

I enjoy listening to my patients and do tend to spend more time than the average time allotted to each person. The average first visit in my office is about an hour. I like to ask a lot of questions. That is called a 'medical history'. That is followed by a brief physical exam to focus on the specific physical problems or complaints that you brought up. Afterwards, we'll discuss a tentative diagnosis or diagnoses for which I will offer a plan of action.
